Returning to Scouting

The Scouting Association rules

At the time of writing this, The Scout Association (TSA) has classified England in the 'Amber' readiness scale, meaning that we can welcome back those Scouts who would like to attend and five Leaders.

The TSA rules to follow are that:

  • Scouts can only meet outdoors primarily.
  • Scouts must wear a face-covering at all times while indoors, including when using toilet facilities.
  • Scouts must adhere to maintaining a 2-metre distance from other Scouts and Leaders.
  • Upon arrival Scouts will be asked to wash their hands.
  • Scouts must be dropped off and collected by a family or household member and NOT via any privately arranged “lift share”.
  • Parents dropping off Scouts will be asked if anyone within the household has been self-isolating with, or if anything in the household has COVID-19 symptoms.

Getting ready to return

  • Location for meetings: TS = Tram Shed (Factory Road, on the site of McGowan Rutherford), MH = Mandeville Hall, and HW = Hawthorn Way (Old Scout Hut site). The meeting locations are posted on OSM but should the weather change for the unexpected, or for some unforeseen issue, we will update OSM (and try to email you) by 6pm the night of the meeting.
  • Meeting times will be: Monday evening, 7:00pm – 9:00pm, with the first meeting back on 19/04/2021 (a night hike from Wicken Fen - check OSM Programme section for details)
  • As all meeting will be mainly outside. Scouts should come with suitable warm/waterproof clothing, a warm winter coat and suitable footwear (ideally hiking boots).
  • Scouts should ensure they have visited the toilet before they arrive.
  • Our weekly programme and special events will be posted on OSM which you will need to login each week and look at the schedule.

Burwell COVID Rules

In addition to the above TSA rules, we have expanded on this as below.  When attending a face-to-face session with us, you must adhere to the following Burwell COVID Rules:

  • Keep a Social Distance from other Scouts and Leaders – 2mtrs
  • As Scouts will be based primarily outside, you must ensure you wear suitable warm (and waterproof) clothing, and wear hiking boots.
  • Bring a torch and water bottle
  • You must sign in with the duty leader.
  • Attend having been to the toilet at home, as toilet facilities are extremely limited.
  • Bring a face mask, for the rare occasions we are inside.
  • If you have a 50ml bottle of hand-sanitiser, please bring this with you (we have some but if you have your own this helps).

At any point the rules, regulations and or restrictions regarding Scouting change either in England, or in the local area, we will switch back to Scouts Online and continue with Zoom Meetings.
